How to Expand Your Contact List
So I went back to play hoops again on Tuesday and Wednesday last week.
I was sore but since my footwork and game was slowly coming back I wanted to keep on improving.
I guess you can say I’m addicted again and basketball is a sport that I just can’t get out of my system. Even after intentionally not playing for 3 years, my passion for it is just as great as when I played competitively 20 years ago.
One of the main reasons I started to play was to meet people at my new church.
Sports is always one of the EASIEST ways for guys to meet new friends FAST!
And not only do you meet just 1 – 2 people, when you play basketball, you can meet 10 – 20 people in 1 night very quickly.
I’ve developed more relationships with new friends during those 2 nights than playing hoops during the 3 – 4 months I’ve been going to service.

Sports Helps You Expand Your Contact List
There is a certain bonding aspect when you play sports together.
If you go back and hoop with the same group of guys, before you know it, you will feel like best buddies with all of them.
It brings back memories of my college days when I used to “live” in the gym.
Most of the regulars were students but many of them were also alumni and university staff. Regardless of the age or whether someone was a law student or the gym janitor, everyone bonded together and we all became friends.
Playing sports is a fantastic way to meet new people and expand your Contact List.
You Must Expand Your Contact List Daily
One of the biggest challenges that MLM distributors face is when they “run out of people” to talk to.
They’ve run out of friends and contacts to talk to.
The reason they’ve exhausted their Contact List is because they forget the 2nd Fundamental Skill of MLM; which is to always be engaged in marketing and expand your Contact List.
New distributors often talk to their initial list of 100 – 200 people (or some mistakenly put down even less than that) and then they don’t know what to do once they have approached everyone.
They think that they must run ads or meet people online in order to grow a new warm market.
Create a New Warm Market
If you have burned out or ruined your warm market because you approached them the wrong way, the simple solution is to create a new warm market!
One of my MLM leaders who recently joined the Million Dollar Club in his company used to be in and out of jail for petty crime (theft) as a youth and was always being kicked out of school.
When he got older, it was impossible for him to get a job because of his background.
So his only chance for a decent career was to do network marketing.
That is one of the beauties of MLM. It does not discriminate.
Anyone can join and anyone can be successful as long as they have the desire.
When I asked him how he got his friends and warm markets to join he said that he couldn’t. None of the people that he knew would even listen to him because of his background.
So instead he went out and met strangers at the bus stop and developed an entire new warm market.
A decade later, he is one of the top income earners in the Philippines and has earned over a $1 million USD in 5 years.
Not bad and he’s just getting started!
How to Expand Your Contact List
Creating a new warm market isn’t difficult.
You don’t have to re-marry or get a new set of relatives. You don’t have to run an ad for friends.
I’ve already talked about meeting new friends through basketball or building relationships with people you meet at the bus stop.
Ways to expand your Contact List
– Join a club for your favorite hobby (or play basketball like me)
– Attend investment and personal finance seminars
– Attend a local class on cooking
– Get involved in a volunteer project
– Join a regularly scheduled fitness class (for i.e. yoga, aerobics, zumba)
– Take an evening course at a community college
– Go to a party and have some fun
– Go to a meetup in your local area
Those are just some ideas to get you started.
Expand Your Contact List by Making a Real Friend
When you meet people at these events initially they are just surface level relationships.
You need to build some trust before people will listen to what you have to offer.
The best advice I can give you is be GENUINELY INTERESTED in people. Care and listen to them.
If you are nervous and not sure when to bring up your business, here is a helpful tip.
Always talk to people as if you were NEVER in MLM.
If you didn’t have anything to sell or offer how would you treat people?
Just treat people like the way they want to be treated and always find ways to provide value.
When you stop focusing on yourself, you will be more natural and LESS nervous. 🙂
I always find that people get nervous talking to others when they are thinking about themselves and their MLM business.
But once they stop thinking about how to bring something up, they become more natural and a person that people want to be around.
Expand Your Contact List by Providing Value
Lastly, always provide value and find ways to make someone’s life better.
Value can be simply making someone happier, making them laugh or helping them out in a certain situation.
